The Roaring Twenties; The Undutchables Eurovision Party

Picture the scene; men in smoking, women in flapper dresses with long pearl necklaces, feathered headdresses and glasses of Cava being handed out by servers. You might think this was a Hollywood movie scene, however this was the scene on May 14th at the NH hotel in Amsterdam. After months of preparation and hard work The Great Gatsby Undutchables Eurovision Party was off to a start.

Guests were welcomed with glasses of bubbly in the foyer and then proceeded into the 15th century chapel where they entered the world of glitz and glamour of the 1920’s. The ladies had an opportunity to visit the professional make-up booth where three professional make-up artists worked their magic until midnight. The downstairs bar offered beer, wine and soda’s but if one walked up the winding stairs to the balcony area there was a cocktail bar with two distinct 1920’s cocktails to choose from. When one walked a little bit further from the cocktail bar there was a beautiful lounge area with vases full of feathers and chandeliers hanging overhead. The view from the balcony onto the main dance floor also gave guests the best vantage view to watch the Eurovision Song Festival, which was projected on the large screen. If one looked into the crowd there was also a chance that they would catch a glimpse of the Charlie Chaplin mime player who was walking amongst the crowd. For those daring enough there was also a caricaturist who painted pictures of the guests during the party.

This year marked a special year for Undutchables as it is 20 years ago since the company was founded. Furthermore, the 14th of May is also the day Judith, Undutchables co-founder, passed away 15 years ago. To celebrate her memory Undutchables worked together with Pink Ribbon this year to raise money for breast cancer research. Visitors had the opportunity to donate money to Pink Ribbon when ordering their tickets online and there were options during the party to donate money in the Pink Ribbon donation boxes. The party eventually raised € 3091,- for breast cancer research. The Eurovision party continued until past midnight with guests from all over the world mingling with each other and discussing the Eurovision Song Festival results. After the Eurovision winner was officially announced it was time to hit the dance floor and dance the night away. The party was a huge success and it was already past 02:00 when the last guests left the venue leaving a trail of pearls and feathers behind them.
